"Fake" Bromeliad / "Lažne" Bromelije / Bromelias - Isa Klein

A month ago I have posted about Bromeliad by Isa Klein, but actually, that was not my first take on this kusudama. First time I've folded it, I've ended up with a model I like to call the "fake" Bromeliad. It is what one gets when omitting to read the instructions on how to connect the modules. :)
I was thinking, OK, this is a sonobe-like modules, so I'll just put the modules together in the sonobe-like fashion. So, instead of gluing the flaps underneath next module and being able to make the kusudama "bloom", I have nicely brought the flaps over and into the pocket of the next module. The resulting ball is certainly not the Bromeliad ball, but the modules are the same, hence: "fake" Bromeliad. This is now it looks:

"Fake" Bromeliad kusudama - a ball made of Bromeliad modules assembled as a regular sonobe ball.

Ovako to izgleda:

Flowers + ball = flowerball i.e. kusudama?

Since this is not a model from a book, here are some ideas for kusudama origami.

Rabbit / Zec - traditional / tradicionalni model

A few days before Easter I thought to myself: "Why not fold a bunny?". It was like a small epiphany. The most logical thing. And I've never even folded a rabbit before! Unbelievable!
So I googled and looked for a model I liked, and quite a big plethora of rabbit aka bunny models did I find! I liked many, so I figured, why not start with this cute traditional rabbit and do some other models later (for Ortodox Easter for example, and next years, ...)?
Choosing the paper was not actually an easy task. I was at a loss for the right one, until I found harmony print in black and white and it all made perfect sense.
The model itself is not to difficult to fold, although one might wish for some more precise instructions on some steps of the diagram.
I love how it turned out in the end, how harmony coloring adds to the model and the lovely long ears that may be molded a little bit to add life to the rabbit.
I've then folded another two rabbits, in green and brown, especially for my sister.

Bromeliads / Bromelije / Bromelias - Isa Klein

I loved this origami model when I first saw it and decided that I had to try it. It is so beautiful, and I think it would look great in any paper combination. One thing that I've discovered while working on this, was that I am a traditionalist at heart when it comes to origami: I simply don't like gluing the modules together. However, this kusudama is well worth it!
But beware when you glue - a moment of distraction might leave you with an hour of trying to get between the glued sheets and to separate them without: a. tearing anything, b. being unable to lift the flaps and make the kusudama bloom, and c. having ugly facets of the ball when glued correctly.
And no, you can't do it all over when you notice the mistake when all is done and you have only one our to finish the kusudama and get to your aunt's birthday party to give her the beautiful origami present. Fun never stops! :)

Bromelias - glued together, before lifting the flaps and creating the flowers. Can you see the mistake?

Zabavi nikad kraja! ;)

Snegom pokrivena sonoba 1 (30 delova) / Snow-Capped Sonobe 1 (30 units) - Meenakshi Mukerji

izdavač / publisher : A K Peters, Ltd. 2007
jezik / language : Engleski / English

It has been a long time since I folded some origami, and I had this gorgeous dotted origami paper by Rayher that I was just dying to try out. The first model that came to my mind, to warm up my folding fingers, was this Snow Caped Sonobe from "Marvelous modular origami". I have folded this modela before, but not in this design.

I was going for a model that features both sides of the paper because I wanted to test how the same model will look like with different sides of paper up or down. These are the results, you can judge for yourself which one you like best.
